THE TENSION IS RISING
In the first months of the mobilization there was a fairly relaxed character. Trenches were made and marches took place. But there was also a lot of laughter, football, billiards and music. From November 1939 onwards there were more and more signals that war was imminent. That is why live cartridges were issued to the soldiers.
Top display plate

On the top display plate is the kepi of conscripted soldier Dikker. He served as a scout at I-4 R.A. The kepi has a red stripe (artillery) and shows the regimental number. His fiancée made a box out of her photo and the postcards he sent.
Middle display plate

On the center plate is the identification plate and war pocket book of gunner Hiddink, who served with the 4th Artillery Regiment. This regiment was stationed at the Prattenburg Estate and the Slaperdijk near Veenendaal. The bayonet, casings, bullets and training bullets were intended for the Mannlicher M95 rifle. The helmet with Dutch lion is model M34.
Bottom display plate

On the bottom plate is a model of a position in the Grebbe Line near Veenendaal. The soldiers are somewhat protected by trenches and trench shields. On the right you can see a trench shield that was placed on the parapet of the trench.
