GERMAN ARMY FINDINGS 1945
In the vicinity of the Grebbe Line, archaeological findings have been made at various locations dating back to the final months of the war in 1945.
Top display plate

The top display plate shows the remains of a German MP 40 submachine gun, retrieved from the Linge River by a magnet fisherman.
Middle display plate

The middle display plate shows, among other things, a German M40 helmet found in 2017 in a layer of sand at the bottom of a Dutch machine gun casemate.
Bottom display plate

On the bottom of the display platelies another German helmet, found in 1991 during construction work in Veenendaal. The indentation in the helmet commemorates the excavator that retrieved it.
Other findings include a German Mauser bayonet, a grenade shell, and a German map found after the war on the wall of a requisitioned house. German soldiers plotted the Allied advance with arrows and dashes.
