FINDINGS FROM ARCHAEOLOGICAL RESEARCH
The Battery on the Schalmdijk, an earthen fortification of the Grebbe Line, is located 800 meters from this display case. This position was reinforced in 1939-1940 with concrete casemates and shelters for anti-tank guns.
In 2021, archaeological research was conducted around the so-called PAG casemates. The material recovered is displayed in this display case. A striking find was the zinc cover used to seal the ventilation pipe. The wartime green paint is relatively intact. Also found are pieces of roofing felt, tension wires, and masking hooks.
Top display plate

On the top display plate is a Mauser carbine (K98), which was found in the moat of Renswoude Castle. The moat water preserved the carbine, preventing it from receiving oxygen. The cartridge pouches that match the Mauser come from a collection.
Bottom display plate

The Battery on Schalmdijk is visible, on the bottom panel of the display plate, in May or June 1940.
